Tanzania head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, will be desperate to see his side secure a place in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations when they take on their hosts, Lesotho in a Group L encouter at the Setsoto Stadium, Maseru, today (Sunday).
The Taifa Stars edged out Cape Verde 2-0 at the National Stadium Dar es Salaam on matchday-four for their first win in the qualifiers after two draws and a defeat in their previous three games.
The Cranes of Uganda have already picked one of the tickets in the group following Saturday’s 1-0 home win against Cape Verde at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Kampala leaving the other three teams to fight for the remaining one ticket.
Uganda top the group with 13 points from five games, while Tanzania occupy second position with five points from four games. Cape Verde and Lesotho sit in third and fourth positions with four and two points respectively.
A win against Lesotho will see Tanzania move to eight points in the table which means they cannot be caught by the two teams behind them on the log even if they lose to Uganda at home in their final game in March.
Tanzania last featured at the AFCON finals in the 1980 edition which was hosted by Amuneke’s home country, Nigeria.
Amuneke only took charge of the team in June and the side has witnessed remarkable turnaround since his arrival.
